1. The Magic Treehouse series
This series was important to me as a child because it gave me the chance to use my imagination and it was easy to connect to the characters because they were children that were around the same age that I was when I was reading the books. Besides helping me learn to use my imagination and become a better reader, this series also presented me with real facts about what was happening in the particular place that each book was taking place. This gave me an English and History lesson in each book of the series. I was able to learn more and further my knowledge because of having the two subjects in one little book.
2. Wishbone series
This series was important to me as a child because it was creative and let me use my imagination. It is from reading this series that got me interest in literaure. This series let me use my imagination to explore the woods and solve the mystery of the headless horse in Sleepy Hollow and the mystery of what happened to Rip Van Winkle in Rip Van Winkle, the crazy minds of Dr.Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and sail down the Mississippi with Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. I got to do all these adventures with a fun little puppy named Wishbone, who is the main character.
3. Harry Potter series
This series was the most important to me because it was the first set of books I ever read without any pictures in it. Reading it made me feel like a grown up. It also let me use my imagination to create what I thought the wizarding world would look like. It opened my mind to a whole new fictional world.
4. Biscuit
This book was important to me as a child because it was the first book I read on my own without help from my parents. I bought it at the book fair in kindergarden and when I got home I read it to my dad. It made me so happy to be able to read without help. It got me excited and made me want to read more books. It was an important stepping in my education.
5. Matilda
This book was inmportant to me because it showed me that no matter who you are, anyone can be extraordinary. It was also imporant to be because as a child I was very much like Matilda. In preschool my two teachers would call me matilda because I looked and acted just like her. This book also teaches lessons. 6. A Light in the Attic

7. Charlotte's Web

It could relate to the little girl in the story because she was close to the same age I was when I was reading it, so it made reading more interesting for me.
Young Adults
Together as a whole the books from my list suggest that it is important for young adults to be able to use their imagination. By using their imagination it allows them to create what you think the worlds presented in the books looks like. You can decide what you think the characters look like. Being able to use your imagination when reading also helps to keep readers interested in what they are reading.Children should be able to pictures themselves in the books they read. If children can use their imagination when reading they can escape the reality around them for awhile and imagine a better reality.
English Curriculum
The English curriculum has been around for many years, but it has yet to remain the same. Reading literature is an important part of a child's education. However, with the recent changes to the curriculum in most schools reading literature has become less important. Today, in schools teachers have to teacher their students based on the State Assessment Tests. Teachers have to make sure that they teach their students the information they need to pass the State Assessment Tests. With having so much focus on tests, it leaves little time for the teachers to get their students to engage in the wonderful words written in a piece of literture. Literature gives students the oppertunity to escape from the real world and step into a world of fantasy. From my experience literaure let me forget about the problems at home. Books gave me the chance to escape into another world and enjooy myself. All children should be given the chance to experience the joys of literature. Schools say that children need to read more, but schools aren't giving the teachers the chance to get the students interested in different types of literature. Teachers should be given more of a say as to what pieces of literature they teach because not all students are on the same reading level. Books read in the classroom should be based on the age group, but also by the student's reading levels. No students should be denied the oppertunity to become an active reader because they are given material to read that they show no interest in. Teachers should should also be able to have their students read a variety of genres, so that reading in the class can appeal to all the students not just some of them. Accomodations should be made so that every student has to oppertunity to get interested in reading.
